My Weekly Schedule As A Blogger With A Full-Time Job

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my terms of use for more information.

When I started my blog in May 2016, it was simply a hobby! I worked a full-time job downtown and wrote my posts on public transportation on my way into work. I posted maybe once a month, and it was something that I just really enjoyed doing! But I didn’t have much of a blogging schedule.

Last year, I kicked it up a notch! I really wanted my blog to grow and wanted it to generate an income. And I knew that to do so, I had to put some time and energy into my site. Needless to say, I’ve been a little busy…

If you are working full-time and wanting to start a blog, I can’t recommend it enough! I may be busy, but starting a blog has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Learn more about how to start an income-generating blog here.

If you’re a blogger or looking to become one while working full-time, here is my schedule of how I balance it all:

9:00pm: Get ready for bed.

10:00pm: Zzzzzz…

12:00pm: Make lunch

1:00pm: Work on the blog. Focus on post writing today!

5:00pm: Make dinner and eat dinner.

6:00pm: Night off!

Saturday

Saturdays vary depending on if we have something fun planned. So this day isn’t as strictly scheduled! But I normally find at least 5 hours on Saturdays to work on my blog. Mostly doing social media.

Sunday

On Sundays, we attend church and have small group. I try to mostly take Sundays off from blogging, but sometimes I might spend an hour or two doing some blog work.

Hours Spent Working

No need to calculate all my working hours from above. Here is on average how much time I spend working each week.

Day Job: 40 hours

Digital Marketing Side Hustle: 5 hours

Blog: 22 hours

Blogging and working full-time is totally possible. But you definitely have to have good time management skills! I like to schedule my blogging time every day to work on something specific for my site. This allows me to accomplish specific goals and not feel overwhelmed on all the work that needs to be done.

I can’t encourage everyone enough to start a blog. If you really truly want to start a blog, you totally can! Just stay focused, organized and manage your time well!

Thank you for this post. I was “happy” to see someone else who gets in at 7am, works full time and decided to give more time to her blog. We are like peas in a pod. I blog 2x a week, and some evenings I am so tired even to blog at night. Will try my best to be disciplined with my time when I leave work at 6 & see if I can get down to it for an hour or two each evening.

Thank you. This is helpful and encouraging. I actually just signed up for my URL Monday. I’m working on creating my blog now and did not expect it to be this hard. I work full time as well. Plus I have 2 kids and my husband works 2nd shift so I’m a single parent Monday-Friday. I’m stressing and second guessing doing this. I really want to but no way I have an 22 extra hours a week. I couldn’t even really work on it until 9:30 pm and I get up for work at 5:30 am. What am I doing?

Hi Jen! My advice would be to take it slow. Set yourself a schedule of something you can do each day of the week. It can totally be overwhelming, but take it one day and one goal at a time. You don’t need to do 22 hours a week. Do whatever can fit in your schedule right now! Make it more fun and less like “work” and you’ll get so much more out of it.
